With Woodbridge lamenting The Table closing its doors back April, no one was quite sure what was in store for town’s favourite restaurant.
But just ten weeks later, Vernon Blackmore is back! Back at the same venue but with a very different venture … spice bar@ the table.
Opening just in time for summer Vernon explains: “When we said our farewells in April it marked a chance to do something different. At the time we just didn’t know what and how.
Spice bar@ the table officially opened its doors last night. “I didn’t want to just re-open and continue what we’d done before,” says the restaurateur, whose portfolio includes three other local pubs and eateries.
“Offering pan Asian fusion dishes, including a few original spice bar favourites, the new team is led by head chef Dan Gorham and front of house manager Charlotte. Dan has been busy developing a menu that’s innovative, and we hope memorable. What’s really working is customers enjoying and sharing the dishes as they arrive. Everyone’s loving this way of eating, but you can of course go more mainstream with a starter and main.
“The dish I’ve had more comments about than any other is our satay hispi cabbage. Loved by veggies, vegans, pescatarians and meat eaters, it just seems to hit the mark. The teriyaki beef croquette is also going down a storm and Dan has created some truly funky deserts such as his spice infused donut with black sesame ice cream.”
“The last eighteen months have been incredibly tough for those in the hospitality business. Some of our team decided to leave of their own accord and others are now happily relocated in our other venues.
“For now, the team is really excited to be offering something new here in Woodbridge and let’s just see where it takes us.”
